[ Hank is back on his feet in an instant. With their connection, he can feel it too. Or at least, he can feel how deeply affected Gavin is by the sensation. Something was wrong with Elijah Kamski, and as unlikely as it seems, Hank knows Gavin's never going to be wrong about this. They all know better than to doubt their connection by now. ]
I'll call Chloe. [ He's already grabbing his phone. ] She has to have like, a tracker on him or something, right?
[ The little charm their grandmother had made keeps the, well, 'sexy' feeling separate but it can't dampen the intense feelings like this. And it's intense. Gavin wobbles and leans a hand against the back of the couch, taking a few slow and deep breaths. It feels like a panic attack.
Something bad must be happening.
It's the usual feeling and something... different. Almost as if someone is touching his brother and invading their territory? Gavin puts his other hand on the couch and leans down, taking deep breath. He can't help his brother if he's having a breakdown over it! In, out. Feel it, don't let it consume you. ]
Yeah, she should know. [ He takes another deep breath and lifts his head up, eyes flashing amber as he succeeds in pushing down most of the urgency he's feeling. ] Fuck, it's bad. And I don't think it's Russian spies or anything... human.
You think it's those vampires? [ Fuck, Hank's gonna have to be more strict about his territory, isn't he? It figures that his irresponsibly would bite him in the ass and get someone he cares about killed. Especially since Chloe isn't answering. ]
Fuck.
[ 'The android you have dialed has been disconnected or taken offline. Please contact CyberLife if you require assistance locating the android.' Hank steps over to Gavin and sets a hand on his shoulder to steady him. He'll be fine. They'll be fine. Hank's his alpha. He's got this under control. (No, he doesn't, not yet.) He dials up Connor next, letting him know what was going on. He's audibly concerned when he hears that Chloe was unreachable, so it only takes a second for Connor to track her down, and subsequently find Kamski's location.
Naturally, he seems to be in an abandoned warehouse. Detroit has too many of those to check for vampires, but they were one of the likeliest place for them to be. Fuck. ]
I'll call it in and send backup. You and Gavin should go, I will see that you are cleared to use deadly force. Please be careful.
[ Yeah, Hank's not gonna be careful. Not if Elijah is hurt and it's all because of him. ]
[ He's so fucking lucky to have Hank at his side. When he touches his shoulder he can't help leaning into him, gribbing at his jacket tightly for a moment. He'd be bouncing off the walls if he had to deal with this alone. He listens to his phone calls, sucking in a breath with a hiss when Chloe doesn't answer. That's bad. That's really fucking bad. Chloe's like a sister and he knows Connor loves her. He's not surprised Conno gets the information in record time.
He takes another deep breath and he stands up straight, setting his shoulders. ]
Right. Let's see what stupid shit he'd gotten himself into this time. [ A quip to hide his fear. He can't hide how fast his heart is thudding. He's that kind of anxious where your limbs and face feel tingly and he has to keep reminding himself to take proper breaths. Once they're in the car, he buries his face in his hands. He's pushed it down, but the urgency is not stopping.
He can't remember the last time his brother was genuinely scared. ]
[ Hank knows just how much this is fucking up Gavin so he keeps himself steady, determined and calm while they make it to the scene and drive maybe a little faster than they should. It's a police investigation, it's fine.
Hank's worried too. He won't disrespect Gavin by pretending he isn't, but he knows sometimes you need some levity, and if they're going into a vampire's nest, they maybe need all the levity they can get before they see whatever horrors could be waiting for them. ]
He'll be fine. He's too rich to die, remember? Not like there's anybody out there who doesn't want that sweet CyberLife money.
[ Gavin manages a hoarse little laugh. It at least eases one of the vices around his ribs. ]
Bullets and fans just bounce off of designer clothes.
[ He drags his hands up and through his hair, holding them there a moment. His big brother is scared and that's wrong. Whoever took him is going to fucking pay. Gavin starts to chew on his bottom lip. ]
Hank. [ He starts out hoarsely, hesitantly. ] ...if something. If something's happened to him. I, fuck, I know we've talked about this but— [ He looks like he's about to cry and he shuts his eyes. ]
I know it's so fucking selfish of me but if he dies a part of me is gonna die. I can't... I can't.
[ Babcia had said their connection was because they shared a soul before they split in two. How do you go on, when part of your soul dies? ]
[ Hank waits for a red light and reaches over and to take one of Gavin's hands, lacing their fingers together. He knows what he's asking. He knows why. Their connection isn't just some fun or useful thing. It's part of them. ]
He's gonna be alright.
[ He has to be. Hank's seen enough cases where twins get split up. It fucks them up, and that's without a psychic link. ]
And if something happens... if he's hurt. I'll... [ Well, he'd have to help. He isn't going to leave his mate for dead. Elijah Kamski may not be an ideal candidate for near-immortality, but Hank loves his husband way too much to consider watching him hurt. ] I'll take care of it. I promise.
[ It'd be a curse but it's their curse. They could figure out the rest as it comes. ]
[ He brings Hank's hand up and kisses the back of it gently, holding it there a moment. He shifts and rests his forehead against their joined hands, taking a deep and shaky breath. ]
Thank you. I'm so sorry to have to ask you that...
[ He squeezes his hand and drops it back into his lap, taking another breath. Gavin swallows, the conversation having given him back some of his stability. He can't keep being scared for him. Kamskis don't get scared.
His thumb finds the ring on Hank's finger and he twirls it gently. ]
[ That's all the explanation needed. Hank knows his mate. He knows he wouldn't ask unless it was dire, and... well, Hank needs to get more serious about this pack stuff. If it could save Elijah's life, he wouldn't hesitate. ]
He's family.
[ Hank pats Gavin's thigh and brings his hand back to the steering wheel, gripping it tight. They're making good time. They'll have backup on the scene. It should be fine. Everything should be fine.
But there's a tiny voice nagging him in the back of his head—what if it's not fine? What if this is all his fault? What if they're too late?
Hank slams on the gas once the light turns green. Fuck, he really needs to get a siren for his car. ]
[ Gavin just nods, closing his eyes for a moment. ]
I neglected my family for too long for him to get killed by fucking vampires.
[ Well, he's getting snarky so that's a good sign. Hank's always good at easing his fear and anxieties. Husband and mate thing, clearly.
He's quiet for a second as the car starts to move again. ]
I know we've joked about finding the 'supernatural underground' in Detroit but... maybe we actually should. If shit like this is gonna start happening.
[ Hank rolls his shoulders. He's an alpha. Detroit is his territory. He can't keep playing nice if monsters are gone step in on his turf and attack his pack. His eyes flash gold, a light growl in his voice: ]
Any asshole who tries to mess with my pack is gonna fucking regret it.
[ Hubba, hubba. At least it's a nice distraction for the moment, feeling a keen deep inside when Hank's eyes flash. He turns and finally smiles, a very toothy and slightly pointed grin. ]
Oh baby, you know I like it when you talk like that. Can't get distracted right now though.
[ Well if tonight goes well once they get home... ]
[ Hank snorts, shaking his head with a smile. At least Gavin's feeling well enough to listen to his dick. The drive doesn't take too long after this—they're in a hurry. It's a shit hole like every other shit hole in Detroit, but according to Connor, Kamski was here. Hank supposes Gavin would know.
The air smells of stale blood. Hank's not exactly familiar with what vampires smell like, but this must be it. ]
[ It's 'hard' not to listen to his dick when his husband is Hank, duh. He pushes it away with a playful little huff, turning back to the road ahead.
Once they get there, Gavin climbs out of the car quickly. It smells like stale blood, old flesh and... underneath it all there's a faint hint of his brother's unique scent. Between his nose and their connection humming in between his ribs, he knows they're in the right spot. ]
He's here.
[ But then in half a second, it's like the wind has been knocked out of him. No, it's like someone reached in and yanked out his lungs and squeezed his heart with their first. He all but collapses onto the hood of Hank's car, gasping. His vision goes black and white for a moment, ears ringing and cold sweat instantly drenching him. For a second, he felt him die. Gavin doesn't notice he's gripped the hood of Hank's car so tightly he's left ten little indents with his fingers. ]
[ Hank steps out of the car and goes around, grabbing Gavin as he doubles over. Christ, that's bad. Hank can feel it through their bond. ]
Fuck.
[ It's bad. Hank growls, not at Gavin, obviously, but at this whole thing. He hopes it's loud enough to let the fuckers inside know that they messed with the wrong guy. ]
[ He feels like part of his soul has been scooped out with a dull butter knife but it doesn't... last very long? His grandmother had mentioned that sort of thing feeling like a permanent scar, an eternally open wound on your heart but it's...
It still hurts but he can't waste any time wondering what it means. Something happened and that's all that matters. He manages to stand up, still shaky, and puts a hand on his heaving chest. Gavin swallows thickly, not aware that a few tears fall from his eyes. ]
No. But let's get in there and find him.
[ And whatever state he's in. Fuck, please. Please Eli. He doesn't want to have to bury you, not like this.
[ Hank strokes Gavin's shoulder, squeezing him once before grabbing his gun from his holster. Regular bullets will only slow down a vampire, but it's good enough for however long it takes them to tear them apart. Hank hasn't gotten to stretch the more violent parts of his curse, but he's more than happy to try them on these fuckers. ]
We'll get him out.
[ Dead or alive or anything else. They'll get him. Hank follows Gavin, letting him take the lead and also watching his back. No way in hell he's letting another of his pack get hurt. ]
[ Gavin doesn't even reach for his gun, just starting to stalk off towards the warehouse. His back seems to roll and pop in a few places as he does so, his instincts getting him ready for a proper fight. His fingers itch as he claws want desperate to pop out, to start tearing and rending the flesh of the fucks who did this to his twin.
He kicks open the door, his amber eyes glowing in the dark. His nose curls and he almost gags, the warehouse reeking of blood. ]
[ They don't need light to see the carnage that's been left. There's a trail of blood, dried pools of it in places from their other victims, no doubt. Hank can smell them in the air, it's not hard to track them now. Hank stays close to Gavin, letting him let loose however he wants. One of them has to keep their head about them. ]
Any of this blood his? I can't fucking tell with all this shit.
[ There's an angry hiss and the sound of thrashing, violent and feral in the distance. That sounds like as good a plan as any to follow. ]
Jesus, they fighting against each other or something?
[ He's not in wolf face fight mode yet, but it's a hair trigger away. Gavin's knuckles are cracking as his muscles get ready for faster than normal reaction times, using force that his body shouldn't be capable of.
The copper smell of the blood and death in the room is almost overwhelming, but he can find his twin's scent in anything. It's... faint. His blood is here, but it's not enough for it to have killed him. A good sign, he hopes. ]
This way, come on.
[ He heads towards the noise and Eli's scent seems to get stronger. If he was the one getting hurt, he'd know. What's happening in this fucking place? ]
It's Eli. He got bullies to fight each other on the playground all the time. Maybe it works on vampires too?
[ If anyone could talk a bunch of vampires into going at it, it's Elijah Kamski. Hank follows close, eyes glowing to keep an eye out for even the slightest movement. He knows Gavin is itching to get out of his skin, so he keeps an eye on him too. Whatever they see in the next room won't be pretty, judging by the snarling ruckus that only grows louder as they approach.
There's a door, and behind it the sounds seem to be building to a crescendo. They have to hurry—Elijah's in trouble. He's gotta be back here. Hank steps back, gesturing the handle. ]
[ They've been in a few tussles but he's never been eager to shed his human flesh. To indulge in the primal part of him and sink his teeth so deep into someone he hits bone and rip and—
Okay, that's not gonna help anybody if he accidentally gets feral in his anger. Control. His mate and alpha being here helps reign him back in. Gavin nods at the instructions. ]
Got it.
[ With that, he opens the door and he rushes in like a rubber band that's been pulled to its limit. Seeing in the dark is a great bonus to these powers and he circles the fight, trying to see where Eli is in the midst of it. ]
[ Uh, yeah so Eli is definitely in this fight. There are bodies on the ground: vampires, torn apart and beheaded and... yikes, it's pretty gross. It's all moving too fast to make out—at least, a human certainly wouldn't be able to, but for a werewolf it should be fairly clear what's happening. Elijah has blood on him but looks surprisingly uninjured. Of course, he's moving lightning fast and seems to be trying to strangle and claw at his attacker, so there's a quick conclusion to be drawn there, but they'll have time to think about that later. ]
Fuck. [ Hank doesn't hesitate. He shoots the vampire attacking Elijah, twice though the body and once in the head. The next bit comes out like a command, his voice booming in full alpha mode. ] Get off of him!
[ Gavin notices it too and... feels an odd swell of pride? Wow, his crybaby brother is finally defending himself. But there's a a lot to unpack from this and they definitely don't have the time right then.
Hank shoots his gun then there's that order, which always makes his ribs vibrate so delightfully. He leaps in and grabs the vampire attacking his brother and all but throws him off of him with a snarl, the vampire hitting the ground with a few sickening cracks.
He stares at Eli. There's blood and guts everywhere, the room absolutely reeks... and he rushes forward and throws his arms around him. ]
[ Elijah is still high on the adrenaline, too scared and keyed up to really notice what's happening. The gunshots stun him to silence, and the hold—his brother's hold, is the only thing that manages to settle him down a bit. Ezra is here. He's safe. His other half, the part of him that aches and burns and kept him steady throughout all of this... he's here.
Elijah squeezes back. He can't unpack any of this either, but Ezra is here and that's good. It's good. It doesn't matter that these monsters hurt him and bit him and killed him. Ezra is here. ]
